Recent BFA and MFA graduates from the Academy of Art University showcased their creations on the runway at the New York Fashion Week (NYFW). The budding designers from diverse backgrounds, such as coastal Maine and mainland China, showcased their talent in front of not only well-renowned names in the fashion industry such as Sara Kozlowski (Director of Education and Professional Development at CFDA) and Ms. J Alexandar (America’s Next Top Model), but they also shared their work with potential employers, their peers, and the rest of the world via live stream.

Consistency in Promoting Future Talent

This event marked the 21st time graduates from the Academy of Art University have showcased their creations at the NYFW since 2005. The university showcases the talent of its graduates on a bi-annual basis on this world fashion stage. The graduates have so far not disappointed. This year, the graduates worked on several collections: five womenswear, two menswear, and two collaborations among them. Each collection came with its own unique spirit even though the process was executed as a collective. Praising the graduates work, Graduate Director of Fashion at the Academy of Art University, Jayne Foster, remarked that the ten graduates are now responsible for inspiring and leading the next generation of creatives.

The Academy of Art University

Stephens, a magazine editor and painter, created the private university to ensure upcoming creatives were taught and trained by practitioners in the art space using proper instruction, while inculcating values such as hard work and dedication. His vision was also to ensure aspiring artists get the opportunity to pursue their dream even if they do not have a portfolio at the time they join the academy. Since then, the academy has grown into the largest global university offering training in the arts. Its student and faculty population is composed of individuals from diverse backgrounds and different countries.

Courses Offered

At the academy, innovation is encouraged. State-of-the-art facilities and a dedicated faculty comprised of current industry professionals guiding students in fields such as fashion, architecture, fine art, photography, graphic design, and web design, among others have ensured the university produces top performers in their respective fields. Consequently, graduates from the academy have gone on to work with top brands such as Pixar, Apple, Nike, Zynga, and EA, among others.
