David McDonald has been with OSI group for over thirty years. Starting fresh out of college with the company, he began as the project manager of the OSI Group. Today, he serves as the chief operating officer of the company.OSI Group began years ago as a small butcher shop in Chicago. Years later, the company supplied meat supplies to McDonald’s. Today, OSI Group provides meat products for the vast McDonald’s chain globally.David McDonald grew up in northwest Iowa at his family’s farm. He earned his bachelor’s degree with his major in animal science. David McDonald believes in giving back to his community. McDonald has been instrumental in Iowa university’s Agricultural Entrepreneurship Initiative. He has given generously to the Alpha Gamma Rho Scholarship fund. David gives of his time and donations in setting internships for ISU students at OSI Group.

Due to David McDonald’s much time and effort devoted to philanthropic work, he was awarded the Iowa State University Foundation’s Emerging Philanthropist Award four years ago, in 2014. David McDonald has the recipient of two awards from Iowa State for his academic efforts. As a young man, he was awarded the Wallace E. Barron Outstanding Senior Award. This award recognizes those seniors who have accomplished superior work in community and activities within Iowa State University. Also in 2004, McDonald was awarded the ISU Alumni Association’s Young Alumni Award for his work with the alumni association.

David McDonald, as COO of OSI Group, has been very instrumental in expanding the company’s global operations. With his expertise at negotiations, the company completed the purchase of Baho Foods, and Creative Foods Europe. With these two acquisitions, OSI Group provides meat products to the European and Dutch continents. McDonald’s expertise has been used in the company’s production logistics globally, his work with government agencies, and the company’s relations with local suppliers here in the states and across the world. When McDonald started with OSI, he interned under the leadership of the company’s founder, Shelton Lavin. McDonald, when he is not working, enjoys time with his wife Melinda and their six children. Two of McDonald’s children attend ISU.
